LIKE in Teradata

LIKE is used in a WHERE clause to search for a specified pattern in a column and it can be used with char and varchar fields.To match a pattern from a word, special characters and wildcards characters may have used with LIKE operator.The LIKE operator can be used with in any valid SQL statement, such as SELECT, INSERT INTO, UPDATE or DELETE.

Syntax:
match_expression [ NOT ] LIKE pattern [ ESCAPE escape_character ]


Example:

Namecity
RoverRome
JoeParis
JohnDelhi


Now we are going to filter only the names which start with 'J'
SELECT * FROM Persons
WHERE Name LIKE 'J%'


Result:

Namecity
JoeParis
JohnDelhi
